hale (2)I work as an Associate Professor of Linguistics at the Department of Foreign Language EducationMiddle East Technical University, Ankara where I mainly teach courses on Pragmatics, Discourse/Conversation Analysis, the analysis of Spoken Interaction at the graduate level, and Linguistics and Research methods courses as well as practicum at the undergraduate level.

I hold a PhD in Foreign Language Education and have worked more specifically within the fields of Pragmatics, Discourse Analysis and Corpus Linguistics. My academic interests mainly lie within the domains of cross-cultural (im)politeness research, corpus linguistics, conversation analysis, intercultural communication, applied linguistics, conceptual metaphors, and the teaching of English and Turkish as a foreign language.

I am currently the Advisor to the Rector for International Collaborations & Engagement and oversee international education programs,  the International Cooperations Office (ICO) and work closely with the International Student Office (ISO) in the areas of International Student recruitment and International promotion.  I am also the SUNY-METU Dual Degree Programs Campus Coordinator as well as the Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator.
