14.04.2020 External Advisor Critique Notes

14/04/2020
  • Combine two concepts: main water unit is necessary for a great number of unit usage. Yet, every unit should have its own water container. Using additional water unit could be optional.
  • Form should be minimal, simple, hygienic look.
  • Explore form over filleted geometrical shapes, not organic shapes. Transparency could be used. Such as hexagonal forms can be explored, and contrast such as full-empty forms can be discovered.
  • For form inspirations, sci-fi movies, screen mirrors(paravan), seperators, hygiene products can be searched.
  • Locking between units, can be arranged with little details on form. Units should be stable, wheels are not logical.
  • Interface should be on product and app control (for off product usage) to show water resource etc. (It can be showed with rgb leds and maybe could be with icons by using surface display.)

I added 3 more forms while I am showing external advisors.

    Hi Esmanur,
Thank you for the hard work and good presentation for concepts 1 and 2.
Your problem area has a lot to offer for future and you have explored it quite well. I agree with given critics that your modules must be minimal and I would like to add that units should create harmony when repeated horizontally and vertically. If you are going to use electric and water connection from the system then you will probably provide wall side or countertop self-attaching and repeating unit solutions. Each unit’s water and electric supply must solved.
Have a nice and safe week!

as your links for latest concepts and thinking.

First of all, I can offer a quick readjustment of your statement:

Current: “A design solution for encouraging users to grow their own vegetables to create an adaptation process for agriculture of 2050 which aims reducing unnecessary consumption (food wastage?)”

Suggestion: “Product to encourage people to grow their own vegetables as an adaptation to agricultural practices in 2050 that centre on appropriate food consumption and reduced waste.”

Overall, as my colleagues have said, you have made extensive research to support your project, and you have paid attention to many important details that will make the final product believable and properly specified. Your process has been thorough and impressive up to this point, well done.

My general comment at this stage is that I would like to see more contextual information and a detailed storyline of product use. By focusing on these, you will be able to take your design to the next level of detailing. Step by step you should guide us visually through how we interact with the product, what interventions are needed, where it is placed (floor, wall, tabletop .. your form exploration suggests alternatives), what settings we need to make etc. Presmably regular checks and maintenance is needed. Where are the services and internal components located? How many units are needed for a typical family of four? And, as Sezgin hoca mentions, if more than one unit is needed, how is the electricity and water distributed amongst them in an elegant and efficient way? You’ll appreciate all these questions are pointing towards the detailed decisions for Phase 3, after Pre Jury, but you should be already thinking about them.

Hope these comments will be useful as you work on your Pre Jury.

    Keep safe and well, Owain.
