On 7 & 8 February 2024, Dr. Alper Kumcu (Hacettepe University, Department of Translation and Interpreting) held a two-day R workshop in which he introduced the basics of R and talked about a number of essential statistical tests for language researchers.

On November 20th, Dr. Orhan Demir (Başkent University, Department of English Translation and Interpreting) presented his interesting research plans and ideas on “Structural Priming in Bilinguals” to LaProc members. We’re all looking forward to hearing about the next stages (and seeing the first results) of Dr. Demir’s research.

20 Kasım’daki toplantımızda, Dr. Orhan Demir (Başkent Üniversitesi, İngilizce Mütercim-Tercümanlık Bölümü) LaProc üyelerine “Structural Priming in Bilinguals” başlıklı konuşmasını gerçekleştirdi. Dr. Demir’in son derece ilginç araştırmasının sonraki aşamalarını ve elde edeceği ilk bulguları heyecanla bekliyoruz.
On November 6th, Dr. Alper Kumcu (Hacettepe University, Department of Translation and Interpreting) gave a very interesting talk (“Birds, worms, honesty and vanity: (Re)activating spatial perception in language”) to LaProc members and a group of interested graduate and undergraduate students.
In his inspiring talk, Dr. Kumcu presented the results of a series of experiments that investigated how the perception of space can modulate how well individual words are remembered, even though space is neither relevant nor necessary for successful retrieval. Dr. Kumcu further discussed some methodological issues concerning the norming of words based on lexicosemantic and sensory variables.

The COST action was officially launched on October 23rd, 2023, during the first Management Committee (MC) meeting held in Brussels. B.Kırkıcı will serve as MC member for 4 years (2023-2027).

LaProc üyeleri Bilal Kırkıcı ve Orhan Demir “Justice to youth language needs: human rights undermined by an invisible disadvantage (Y-JustLang)” başlıklı (CA22139) COST Aksiyonuna katılım sağlamışlardır. COST CA22139, 23 Ekim 2023’te Brüksel’de gerçekleştirilen ilk Yönetim Komitesi toplantısıyla resmi olarak başlamıştır. B. Kırkıcı 4 sene boyunca (2023-2027) aksiyonun Yönetim Komitesi üyesi olarak görev yapacaktır.
