Background

  • EDUCATION

Ph.D. Civil Engineering, Middle East Technical University (2018)

MSc. Hydraulics and Water Resources Engineering, Istanbul Technical University (2013)

BSc. Civil Engineering, Istanbul Technical University (2011)

  • EXPERIENCE

Post-doctoral Researcher (Oct. 2018 – Aug.2019), Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Surrey

• Examine the Handbook 47/EX2502 scour risk method currently used by Network Rail in UK
• Discuss the influence of different resolutions of data availability towards carrying out more efficient risk assessment for bridge structures
• Compare the contraction and local scour estimation models currently used in the UK with other approaches in the literature
• Assess the effect of hydraulic modelling in scour risk assessment
• Analyse the effect of the river bed changes over time on the scour depth
• Discuss the effects of parameter uncertainties in hydraulic modelling on scour analysis

Researcher in Scientific Research Project, BAP FEN-15-D-2 (Sept. 2015 – Oct. 2018), Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus

• Applied a set of quality check procedures to create quality-controlled, complete, and homogeneous daily precipitation data sets
• Investigated the local effects of climate change and the annual and seasonal variability of extreme precipitation events in Northern Cyprus
• Performed regional frequency analysis to identify the hydrologically homogeneous regions of Northern Cyprus and obtain reliable precipitation estimates for larger return periods
• Developed the rainfall-runoff models of Kanlıkoy and Gonyeli Reservoirs and the coupling of 1D-2D hydrodynamic model for the flood modelling of Nicosia
• Proposed a number of remedial measures to protect the capital city of Nicosia from the effects of floods relied on the generated flood inundation maps

Researcher in Scientific Research Project (Sept. 2011 – Jul. 2013)
Department of Civil Engineering, Hydraulics Laboratory, Istanbul Technical University

• Examined the baseflow separation techniques in the literature
• Compared the results of widely used baseflow separation methods by using the stream flow data in Euphrates basin at the eastern part of Turkey
• Associated baseflow with topographical, geological and hydrometeorological properties of the basin by using the multiple regression analysis
• Developed regression equations to provide accurate estimations of baseflow discharge and baseflow index
