Research

I am a member of AI2LAB (Applied Innovative and Interdisciplinary Research Laboratory), under the supervision of Dr. Onur Pekcan.

My current fields of study:

  • Applications of metaheuristic optimization algorithms to civil engineering / geotechnics-related problems:
Cost optimization of a reinforced concrete cantilever wall. Geometrical variables of the wall are shown (Tutus et al., 2020).
Sizing optimization of 117-bar benchmark truss (Article in progress).
  • Applications of machine learning techniques to geotechnical engineering problems:
Synthetic FE analyses for data generation using PLAXIS Remote Server (Python API). The fully automated script creates the geometry, forms the mesh, and analyzes the problem in separate stages (Work in progress).
Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Squared Error (MSE), and Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) calculations on the trained model. An artificial neural network (ANN) composed of 3 hidden layers, each having 30 neurons, is formed (Work in progress).
  • Testing of Geosynthetics
ASTM D6693 – Tensile Test of Polyethylene Geomembranes.
Universal Test Machine (UTM) of our lab.
A geomembrane sample is being tested.
