SHORT BIO

Nevzat Özgüven is a Professor Emeritus in the Mechanical Engineering Department at METU. He received his Ph.D. from The University of Manchester and later conducted research at Imperial College London as a NATO Research Fellow. He served as a Visiting Fulbright Professor at The Ohio State University for two years and spent a term at the Technical University of Munich as a TUM Global Visiting Professor

Over the course of his career, he has held several high-level administrative positions. These include serving as CEO and the President of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Cement Industry (while on leave from METU), Assistant President at METU (responsible for research), Vice President of TÜBİTAK for over five years, and Vice President of METU (responsible for academic affairs) for eight years. He has represented Türkiye on numerous international platforms, including the OECD Global Science Forum and EUREKA, and has served on the boards of various national and international organizations.

His research focuses on structural dynamics, with a particular emphasis on nonlinear vibrations; gear dynamics; machine tool dynamics, and rotor dynamics. He has published over 200 scientific papers, authored a book, and supervised more than 80 graduate students. According to a global study by Stanford University, he is ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide. Prof. Özgüven has received several awards from prestigious institutions, including TÜBİTAK, NATO, NASA, Fulbright, TTGV, TÜBA, and METU. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a member of the Society of Experimental Mechanics, and a full member of the Science Academy (Türkiye).
