ABOUT THE PI
Professor Büyük is a researcher at the forefront of Simulation-Based Engineering Science (SBES), working at the convergence of Applied Mathematics, Computational Mechanics, and Advanced Material Science. As the Principal Investigator of the Büyük Research Lab, he leads a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary team focused on a singular challenge: establishing the reliability of Digital-Systems in safety-critical environments.
His research portfolio is purposefully broad, rejecting the traditional silos of engineering. By integrating Theory, Simulation, and Experiment, Prof. Büyük develops “Digital Innovation” that is mathematically sound and physically validated. His work spans from the atomic design of nanomaterials to the structural integrity of aerospace systems.
Prof. Büyük is a strong advocate for “Certification by Analysis,” pioneering methods that allow industries to reduce reliance on destructive physical testing without sacrificing safety standards. His academic philosophy is grounded in independence and rigor; he engages in partnerships that advance fundamental science & engineering knowledge rather than seeking standard industrial solutions.
At METU, Prof. Büyük is dedicated to training the next generation of scientists and engineers to be bilingual in both science and coding, preparing them for a Digital-Future, where the digital and physical worlds are indistinguishable.
