I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Middle East Technical University (METU), where I lead the Signal Processing And Computational sEnsing (SPACE) Lab. My research interests span computational imaging, inverse problems, machine learning, statistical signal processing, compressed sensing, and optical information processing.
My research particularly focuses on the joint design of physical systems and algorithms for multidimensional imaging, as well as the development of data-driven inverse problem methods based on physics-informed machine learning. Our work contributes to advancing next-generation sensing and imaging technologies for various scientific and commercial applications in physical and life sciences.
I received my B.S. and M.S. degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey, in 2007 and 2009, respectively, and my Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), IL, USA, in 2014. During my master’s studies, I was awarded the Departmental Research Fellowship from Bilkent University. At UIUC, I received the NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship and the Professor Kung Chie Yeh Endowed Fellowship. I was also named to the “List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent by Their Students“.
After completing my PhD, I conducted postdoctoral research at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, where I developed novel computational spectral imaging techniques to enhance high-resolution solar imaging. In 2015, I transitioned from NASA to METU as a faculty member. At METU, I have designed and introduced new undergraduate and graduate courses aligned with my research.
I currently serve as an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Computational Imaging and have previously been a Guest Editor for Optics Express and Applied Optics. Additionally, I have been involved in the organizing committees of international conferences and have served as a reviewer for several journals. Between 2021 and 2023, I was a subcommittee member of IEEE Women in Signal Processing and Treasurer of the IEEE SPS Turkey Chapter.
