Mamak Science Festival

Although I participated in the mamak science festival thanks to the METU Robotics Group, I wanted to place this post in the education category. Because we gave lectures to primary, secondary and high school children rather than dealing with robots all day. The children’s curiosity and facial expressions when they saw the line follower robot were amazing. They were all curiously getting closer to the track and making a special effort to predict.

There were very important tactics that I used in training that day. First, I asked the children as many questions as possible. In this way, they tried to think and became more curious when their answers were wrong. Secondly, I realized that I explained the subject to them as complicated at first. Sensors, Arduino… Later I realized that I had to change it and that most of the children who came did not understand it. I compared the sensors to eyes and showed that the eye that sees every line is closed, that is, if the robot sees a line on the right, it will blink to us. Seeing the progress of the robot by blinking, the children both understood the robot better and were not confused.
