When Two Greats Stood Face to Face

There were a lot of times we were on the brink of war. But none of them came this close to starting it.

Cuban Missile Crisis is a conflict between two superpowers of the time: United States and Soviet Union. Soviet Union was enraged when US deployed weapons of mass destruction to Italy and Turkey. In response to that, Soviets deployed nuclear missiles right next to US, to Cuba. While gathering intelligence, a U-2 spy plane was shot down over Cuba.  This confrontation is considered the closest Cold War came to a real war.

After negotiations, John Kennedy(US President at the time) agreed to remove missiles from Turkey in exchange for soviets removing all missiles from Cuba, thus postponing end of the world.
