6G ISAC

The frequency spectrum is becoming increasingly more congested and contested due to rapidly increasing bandwidth of radar sensing and communication systems. The integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems that utilize the same frequency resources for both operations are seen as key solutions for the congested frequency spectrum problem.

ISAC systems can be designed as radar-centric or communication-centric systems based on the waveforms that are utilized. In the radar-centric ISAC systems, the communication data is embedded in radar signals, while communication-centric ISAC solutions exploit the communication signals for radar sensing.ISAC is envisioned to be an important part of 6G communication (6th Generation) networks.

The emergence of 6G, the sixth generation of wireless communication technology, is poised to transform connectivity by advancing speed, reliability, intelligence, and integration to new heights. Although currently in the research and development phase, 6G is projected to expand on the achievements of 5G while overcoming its challenges, unlocking groundbreaking applications across various industries and communities. Recent the state-of-the-art articles on ISAC and 6G can be found in scientific journals.
