Engineering
Following my undergraduate studies, I worked at Shire Consulting (Birmingham, UK) as a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer for eighteen months. During this time, I have worked on a number of different engineering projects. In addition to general technical work, I was responsible for designing the specifications of the Shire Piles schemes. Certain schemes were designed for application in new builds, while others were designed for the repair of properties that have suffered from subsidence damage. The schemes are installed by Shire Consulting’s own workforce, and I have assisted in the organisation and management of on-site teams. The experience I gained from working at Shire Consulting has allowed me to understand the expectations that companies have of graduates, and I have provided students with such insights to prepare them for their entry into the industry.
Since 2015, I have also worked on a number of geotechnical projects in Cyprus. One of the biggest and most prestigious projects I took part in was the extension of the Ercan International Airport. The planned extensions consisted of adding a new terminal building, a runway, a tunnel through the runways, and new underground carparks. I was responsible for geotechnical works, and my duties ran from the commissioning of work on the project to the design of geotechnical aspects. A second, challenging project I worked on was geotechnical design for the European Commission-funded Güngör sanitary landfill project in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Most recently, I have worked on geotechnical design and site investigation and consultancy for a KIBTEK Teknecik liquefied natural gas (LNG) transfer pier facility. Besides these prestigious and challenging projects, I have conducted a number of site investigations, laboratory tests, and geotechnical design projects that have broadened my expertise on a wide range of geotechnical applications and ground conditions.
