UNIVERSITY PROJECTS

GEOTECHNICAL DESIGN PROJECT

  • Creating the soil profile according to boring logs and determining parameters of soil layers using correlations based on SPT values (Correlations of Soil and Rock Properties in Geotechnical Engineering [B. M. Das, 2016], NAVFAC DM7-01, NAVFAC DM7-02, EPRI EL-6800 were used while the derivation of short and long terms properties of soil layers )
  • Determining the allowable bearing capacity of the given shallow and deep foundations according to Vesic, A.S. (1973) and static analysis method using Microsoft Excel and Plaxis 2D
  • Determining elastic settlement of the given shallow and deep foundations using Microsoft Excel and Plaxis 2D
  • Analyzing the liquefaction risk of the soil layers (boring logs are given the scope of the lecture) based on both TBDY-2018 and SPT-Based Liquefaction Triggering Procedures (R. W. Boulanger and I. M. Idriss, 2010) with Microsoft Excel
  • Determining the safety factor of a slope after a flood using Plaxis 2D and SLOPE/W

GRADUATION PROJECTS

  • Determining slope angles of an embankment dam before operation and after the operation with SLOPE/W
  • Stabilizing a highway slope that has lost its stability after an earthquake using anchored piled walls (Design of the walls relied on Canadian Foundation Engineering Manuel 4th Edition)
  • LPile Design Program was used when drilling piers designing against lateral loads

COMPUTER PROGRAMMING PROJECT

  • Applying the Schmertmann Method (1978) to spread footings that are built on sand soils with MATLAB
  • Correlations of Soil and Rock Properties in Geotechnical Engineering (B. M. Das, 2016) and Foundation Design: Principles and Practices (Coduto, 2001) were used throughout the coding as the reference books for the settlement calculations and determining of soil properties based on SPT, CPT and PMT values
  • Moreover, after determining the mean values of CPT at certain distances, a Gaussian Distribution script was coded according to the mean value with standard deviation obtained over the whole depth, and the correlations with the actual values were analyzed

REINFORCED CONCRETE SYSTEM DESIGN PROJECT

  • Calculation of the structure members’ cross-section properties based on TBDY-2018 under certain loading cases via writing Microsoft Excel Sheets for the buildings that were given in the scope of the lecture
  • Determining moments, shear and axial forces that occurred in the structure members when applied earthquake loads with SAP2000
