Steam’s New Family Sharing Feature is Here. What Does It Mean For Your Children?
The popular video game distribution platform Steam recently released an updated family sharing feature, called Steam Families. It is set to replace the old Steam Family Sharing and Steam Family View. Here are the key points, and more importantly, how this affects you as a parent and your children:
- Family Sharing remains, allowing members to access shared games, but now with separate saved data and achievements for each person.
- Parental Controls are more robust, with the ability to limit game access, set playtime limits, monitor activity, and approve purchases.
- Child Purchase Requests streamline buying games by allowing kids to request payment approval from a parent, instead of using a credit card or gifting.
- Family Management is centralized, making it easier to manage access and restrictions across the entire family from one place.
