Geosynthetics

Geosynthetics are one of the most revolutionary product groups within civil engineering, offering high-performance, cost-effective and long-term solutions to problems that arise within geotechnical, geo-environmental, hydraulic and transportation engineering. Ultimately, they allow infrastructure works to be constructed more economically, more sustainably and with greater resilience, compared to alternative solutions (https://www.tensarinternational.com/resources/guides/introduction-to-geosynthetics)

Some videos:

In this video, Kent von Maubeuge describes the various types of geosynthetic products and the manufacturing methods used in order to engineer these materials. The video explores geosynthetic functions, how raw materials are selected and utilized in the production process, specialty products, common graphical symbols used in the field, and the benefits offered to infrastructure through the proper specification of geosynthetics. The lecture is part of the IGS University Online Lecture Series.

In this video, Dr. George Koerner, P.E. (Director, Geosynthetic Institute)  identifies geosynthetic properties and how various materials are prepared for testing. Examples of testing that is used to support proper geosynthetic specification and project qualification are provided. The presentation is part of the International Geosynthetics Society’s IGS University Online Lecture Series.
