Students are assigned a research paper, are asked to read &amp; analyze it in detail throughout the semester and give regularly scheduled presentations. Students are also expected to prepare a final presentation both in written and oral form.<\/p>\n<p>Note that this is a <strong>2-credit course<\/strong> and is supposed to be taken as an\u00a0<em>extra<\/em> course to the standard curriculum.<strong> You cannot take this course as a &#8220;departmental elective&#8221; course but can only take it as a &#8220;free elective&#8221; or &#8220;not included&#8221; course. <\/strong>Another course criteria is that you have to be a <strong>third or fourth year mathematics major<\/strong> with a <strong>CGPA of at least 3.00<\/strong>. If you are a second year student who wishes to take this course, please send me an e-mail.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Additional course information for this semester:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The meetings for this course are going to be in-person<\/strong>. While the topics of assigned papers have been different for each student in the past, for this semester only, this course will act as a seminar group studying the Ramsey theory of ordinals and cardinals. For this reason, <strong>it is not possible for a student to register to this course without obtaining permission from the instructor<\/strong>.
