FunDA Research Lab
FunDA Research Lab brings together members from various programs within Educational Sciences, representing different stages of their academic careers. The team includes faculty members from diverse universities, as well as students pursuing bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees, along with PhD candidates. Here are the members of the team:
Neslihan Alakabak
Graduated with high honors from TED University in Guidance and Psychological Counseling. Actively engaged in student clubs, mentorship programs, and research projects. Completed internships at the Family Therapy Center, Directorate General of Migration Management, Turkish Education Association Headquarters, and the Ministry of National Education. After graduation, she worked as a trainer in an NGO project and as a teaching assistant in a European Solidarity Program in Italy. Currently, she is pursuing a master’s degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling at METU, as well as a training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Creative Drama.
Funda Barutçu Yıldırım
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Funda Barutçu Yıldırım is a faculty member in the Counseling and Guidance Program at the Department of Educational Sciences, Middle East Technical University (METU). She holds a bachelor’s degree in Science Education from Boğaziçi University and earned both her master’s and doctoral degrees from the Counseling and Guidance Program at METU. Following her Ph.D., she completed postdoctoral studies at Indiana University Bloomington, School of Education, Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology. Her research interests include the academic and social experiences of university students, online counseling, and non-marital relationships.
Ece Nur Boranlı
She graduated in 2021 from Hacettepe University’s Guidance and Psychological Counseling undergraduate program with a minor in Economics, earning the top rank in her class. In the same year, she began her master’s studies at Middle East Technical University. Since 2022, she has been working as a research assistant at Eskişehir Osmangazi University. Her primary research areas include cyberbullying, cyber dating violence, and migration.
Ayça Çetin
Ayça Çetin completed her undergraduate education in Guidance and Psychological Counseling at Middle East Technical University Northern Cyprus Campus, graduating in 2023. She has participated in various projects, including career counseling, individual counseling, group counseling, and elementary school workshops. She has particularly worked on projects related to self-compassion, adolescence, and fear of public speaking. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling at Middle East Technical University.
Gizem Ekici
In 2021, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling from Ege University, and in 2024, she completed her master’s degree in the same field at Middle East Technical University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Guidance and Psychological Counseling at Middle East Technical University. Since 2023, she has been working as a Research Assistant in the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling at Trakya University Faculty of Education. Her research interests include counselor education and positive psychology.
Ömer Kızılkaya
Ömer Kızılkaya is an undergradute student at the Middle East Technical University (METU), majoring in Foreign Language Education with a double major in Computer Engineering. He plans to work as a computational linguistics researcher in the future. His research interests include the use of technology in education, science communication, and computational linguistics.
Büşra Kulakoğlu
Büşra Kulakoğlu graduated as the top student from the Elementary Mathematics Education program at Middle East Technical University in 2016. In the same year, she began her master’s studies in the Educational Administration and Planning program, earning her degree in 2019. She is currently a PhD candidate in the Educational Administration and Planning program, focusing on the economics of education and higher education. She is a research assistant in the Department of Educational Sciences at Middle East Technical University. Her research interests include the economics of education, education policies, crisis management, higher education, and internationalization.
Selin Onaylı
Dr. Selin Onaylı completed her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Mathematics Education at Hacettepe University in 2005. She earned her master’s degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling from Middle East Technical University in 2010 and her PhD in 2019. From 2006 to 2012, she worked as a mathematics teacher in public schools under the Ministry of National Education. Between 2012 and 2017, she served as a mathematics teacher at a minority school in Greece, assigned by the Ministry of National Education. From 2017 to 2022, she worked at a school for visually impaired students under the Ministry of National Education. She is currently a lecturer in the same department at TED University.
Burcu Özcan
Burcu Özcan is a research assistant in the department of Educational Sciences, Middle East Technical University (METU). After receiving a bachelor’s degree in English Language Teaching program, she received her MSc. Degree from the Curriculum and Instruction program at METU Educational Sciences Department. She is currently studying for Ph.D. degree in Curriculum and Instruction program at METU. Her main research interests include teaching anxiety, teacher education in 21 century, and teacher self-efficacy.
Metin Pulat
Metin Pulat completed his undergraduate education at METU (Middle East Technical University) in the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance and conducted his master’s thesis on “Online Psychological Counseling” in the same field. He is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at METU. Throughout his career, he has worked as a psychological counselor and project assistant in various institutions. As a TÜBİTAK scholar, he worked on the “Strengthening Schools Against Earthquakes Project,” focusing on disaster psychology. Currently, he serves as the Rehabilitation Center Manager at the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Center in the Mamak district of Ankara, within the scope of YSYD.
Nureda Taşkesen
Currently pursuing her Ph.D. in the Psychology Department at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), where she is a member of the Center on Parenting and Emotion Regulation (CPER). She is working on the “Emotion Crafting” project, funded by The Research Council of Norway. She holds an M.Sc. in Guidance and Psychological Counseling from Middle East Technical University, where she worked as a research assistant from 2020 to 2023. Her research interests include emotion regulation, parenting, and romantic relationships.
Gizem Tellioğlu
She completed her undergraduate education in 2022 at the Department of Psychological Counseling and Guidance at METU Northern Cyprus Campus. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Psychological Counseling and Guidance at Middle East Technical University. Due to her interest in romantic relationships, she is conducting her thesis research on relationship satisfaction.
Fadime Ural
Fadime Ural is a research assistant at Educational Sciences Department, Middle East Technical University (METU). Currently, she is doing her PhD in Curriculum and Instruction program at METU. She received her master’s degree from the same program. Her bachelor’s degree is from Foreign Language Education department at METU. Her research interests are pre-service teacher education, professional development of teachers, action research, teacher commitment, teacher self-efficacy beliefs, and curriculum evaluation.
Perim Uyar
She completed her undergraduate education in the Department of Educational Sciences, Guidance and Psychological Counseling program at Boğaziçi University. She earned her master’s degree in the Department of Educational Sciences, Guidance and Psychological Counseling program at METU, with a thesis titled “The Mediating Role of Self-Compassion in the Relationship Between Self-Efficacy and Romantic Relationship Satisfaction.” She is currently pursuing her doctoral studies in the same program at METU. Additionally, she works as a research assistant in the Department of Educational Sciences at METU.
