Vice President for Research of METU (2010-2016)

The Vice President for Research at METU was one of three (3) vice presidents reporting directly to the University President.

Responsibilities (not exhaustive):

  • strategies and policies for research and university-industry partnership,
  • relations with and looking for funding opportunities from both public and private institutions,
  • corporate strategy management (for ODTU TEKNOKENT Management Inc.),
  • coordination among multiple units,
  • information technologies supervision,
  • chairing commissions.

ODTU TEKNOKENT

ODTU TEKNOKENT is the main instrument of METU for industry-university partnerships, commercialization of university technologies and incubating entrepreneurs. Furthermore, it offers employment opportunities for METU’s students and graduates. With its more than 320 tenant companies, 60% of which were initiated in its premises and that employ more than 5500 personnel, of which 90% hold bachelor or Master’s or PhD degrees and with 125.000 square meters of closed area reserved for R&D operations, ODTU TEKNOKENT has undersigned exemplary success stories to serve as a model for other technoparks in Turkey. ODTU TEKNOKENT runs miscellaneous programs for the companies and entrepreneurs that it hosts. Among these are, “New Businesses New Ideas Acceleration Program” and “Animation Technologies and Game Development Center” namely the pre-incubation programs to promote technology-based entrepreneurship; ODTU KOSGEB TEKMER, Technopreneurship Incubation Center and ODTU-Halıcı Software House as Incubation Centers; “TeknoJump” accelerator program as an enabler for companies to open up to global markets; Business Angels Network “METUTECH-BAN Technology Investors Association” and “TeknoFund” technology fund that are developed as financial tools; “Technology Transfer Office” for the commercialization of academic know-how; Defence and ICT clusters as a an expeditor of collaboration among companies; and finally liaison offices abroad to pave the way for international cooperation. Owing to the aforementioned services and its activities, ODTU TEKNOKENT ranked first for four years in a row, according to the Technology Development Zones National Performance Index for 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
